About darkroom prints
I have been making fine art exhibition prints for photographers about twenty years now. I have four enlargers ranging from a 8x10" Saltzman to a 35mm Leitz Focomat. I use Zone VI archival washers. All processing is done exactly as described in Ansel Adams book "The Print." The original negative is placed in the enlarger and a print is exposed, then developed by hand in trays of chemicals. It takes a substantial amount of time and test prints to "work out the recipe" for each print. The process is time consuming, which is why darkroom prints cost more. Archival fiber prints have recognized value in the fine art market, and are preferred by collectors when investment quality is the top priority.
About Ultrachrome digital Prints
Prints are produced using an Epson 2200 photo printer. I use genuine Archival Matte paper with archival pigments exactly as recommended for maximum permanence. In tests conducted by Wilhelm Imaging Research, an independent image permanence research firm, this combination has been shown to produce lasting, fade-resistant prints. Ultrachrome prints are more permanent than conventional color photographic prints. Digital prints enable the "printing recipe" to be programmed, and the print is then made by a digital photo printer. The reason they offer top image quality is because there is far more control of tonal adjustments. Dust spots and defects are completely removed. I make extremely detailed corrections of defects, however I respect the integrity of the image and no "doctoring" of elements in the image is ever done. I do not use any "automatic dust removal" or "color restoration" software, I do all of the color balancing and dust spotting.

Q: What is the difference between Darkroom and Digital prints?
Darkroom prints are made with traditional techniques of sensitized paper and chemicals in the darkroom, exactly like fine art photographers have used for over a century.
Digital prints are made by a digital photo printer. They are the most cost effective way of obtaining excellent archival prints for decoration and display.
Color or sepia images must be printed by Ultrachrome. Only black & white negatives can be printed in our darkroom.
Shipping is at postal cost

Reproduction Information for publishers
Fees for photograph reproductions in publications are negotiated. Non profit publications may qualify for discounted rates, however it is never less than $75.00 per photograph per one time use. I will promptly quote rates once I have basic information about your publication. To give you a quick idea, I want 2% of space rate. I am flexible and may consider a reasonable proposal, please inquire. All photos are copyrighted and may not be reproduced without a "permission to publish" agreement. If you wish to make copies of my photos, publish them, or host them on your website, please email for more details. Buying a print does not give you any rights. All print sales are for personal use and display only.
