October 7, 1948

Caption as published by the Oregonian on October 10, 1948: “Big Bag. When a group of farmers from the Yoder community between Canby and Molalla go hunting they do it in style and en masse. This year, the group – which six years ago numbered only seven men – was composed of 23 hunters. What’s more, they brought back exactly 23 mule deer. Last year their party of 21 men brought back 19 deer. How many they got in the years before that they decline to say. The hunt ‘in the Burns area’ but will not reveal exactly where, although they say the game commission knows where it is. They took two trucks, one private automobile and two jeeps, spent five days in all, beginning with opening day. Seven of the kill were forked horns. The other 16 animals carried from three to six points. The largest one weighed 245 pounds. Hunters shown at right with some of their trophies are, back row, from left, Buck Wilkerson, Fred Sailer, Lorin Wrolstad, Ralph Mattison, George Jeli, Ray Sether, Norman Sether, Frank Jeli, Joe Jeli, Clifford Wrolstad, Walt Watson and Arnold Melum. In the front row are George Wrolstad and son Keith, Warren Kyrk, Roy Nicholson, John Trullinger, Glen Yoder, Howard Kyrk, Floyd Abrahamson, Ronald Nicholson, and son Sam, and Tom Dybvad. Not present for the picture were Fay Livingston and Wilford Nelson, the other two hunters. Children did not accompany party.”
