The Oblivion Seekers

I didn't compose much until this album was about done, so it's mostly cover songs.
Roadhouse dates back to 1981, and The Border to 1984. I made myself sit down and write
the other originals listed below when T/K told me to go finish the record.
We never played Fine Fine Fine live. I can't remember doing Christmas until maybe
2006, although John and Jim played it once when they were in business as the Maroons.

6. Fine Fine Fine

Theme suggested by Hans Jonas, "The Gnostic Religion"

The tides have swept me far from shore, I've drifted for too long
But a fog is lifting from my eyes, I can see where I belong

I want to go where Jesus lives, I want to be there too
I see the doors, I can see the light, help me pass on through

Chains are falling from my soul, I know it's time
And I know, death will be fine, fine, fine

7. Roadhouse

Theme suggested by Tennessee Williams, "The Fugitive Kind"
With the moon up above to light the way
The road goes on til the break of day
You can drive all night on gasoline and gin
Blacktop beneath the rolling wheels
Black dirt up in the cotton fields
Watching eyes that follow you on in
To the roadhouse, just across the county line
Come on down and leave your cares behind

It's a haunted shack with a hardwood floor
And a neon sign up above the door
And a jukebox loud enough to raise the dead
The sound of rock with a Southern beat
The scent of rot in the summer heat
Shadows falling on what lies ahead
From the roadhouse, just across the county line
Lose your blues just leave them behind

10. The Border

Rosa woke up in the hour before dawn
The bed was empty, her man was gone
Leaving nothing behind to show
But just a note that read, yo he vuelto, I've gone back to Mexico

A desert empire, from one coast to the next
Dunes flow north to claim the rest
The eagle circles, but all he sees is sand
While far below coyotes watch and smile and wait for him to land

Johnny walks out to the pay phone down the hall
And for the fourth time he tries to call
She'd never leave him, she wouldn't go
But the phone keeps ringing, and she don't answer, she's on the train to Mexico

The wind is rising and with it comes the rain
Floods roll through the canyons and out across the plain
The puma sniffs and climbs for higher ground and twists its head
And tries to shake the horsemen on his trail, outriders of the dead

Thirteen rooms, high up with a view
Color TVs, and a swimming pool
Mom and dad live easy, they'll be the last to know
That the kids are long gone, they pawned the jewelry halfway to Mexico

Bienvenido, emigrante, to the kingdom of the sun
Where the scorpion and the serpent bow down to no one

12. Forever

Music inspired by Mickey & Sylvia; "Love Is Strange", "Dearest" and "Bewildered"
For just a moment, lost in time
I was yours, and you were mine
Now that moment has passed us by
But the love we knew will never die

Memories fade, and then they're gone
Like the moon's last rays before the dawn
Our lives will steal away
But what we were will always stay

Christmas in the City

(Released on T/K 92CD025 "It's Finally Christmas!")

It's Christmas in the city, voices and bells are ringing all day long
Everyone smiles as they pass by, I look back and wonder where they've all gone

Angels and tinsel down the street as far as I can see
It's Christmas time in the city, I wish that my baby could be here with me

It's Christmas in the city, lights are shining and the children glow
They're all lined up for Santa, I stop to look, I turn and I go
