Montana hardware freight wagon

The freighter wagon of Babcock and Miles, a Livingston hardware company, visits Cinnabar on it's delivery route around 1886. Babcock & Miles was founded in 1882. By 1889, A. W. Miles had become sole owner of the hardware business, and went on to become Livingston’s formost business man. Cinnabar no longer exists but it was located near the present town of Gardiner, which is the north gateway to Yellowstone National Park.
Elwood Hofer, an amateur photographer, was employed on a ranch at Cinnabar when he made this photograph around 1886. Hofer later became a guide in nearby Yellowstone Park, and was Theodore Roosevelt's personal guide during the president's 1903 vacation there.
