Albany NY Baseball Teams, 1908

writing on negative emulsion: "St. Georges Fellowship club baseball team. Pennant winners 1908. Chapter clambake". The scoreboard backdrop is lettered: "Stoll Beer. The Beer of Quality" over which has been nailed a Pepsi Cola sign. The game on the scoreboard is New Hope vs. Saint Georges baseball team.
The picture was taken in the basin of Beaver / Lincoln park, the traditional location of neighborhood baseball games. Two years before this game, on June 3, 1906, local Presbyterian clerics arranged to have Sunday baseball players arrested for violating the "blue laws". In a politically astute move, the cases were promptly dismissed two weeks later by Judges Rogan and Brady. Photo attributed to J. Tregurlha of Albany NY
